This weekend, the temperature was in the 70s, and it was damp and raining. Last night, the windchill (a term nearly foreign to NC), was hovering at 0. Below freezing is rare enough, below zero is super rare, so having winds at 10+ mph and temps at 10 degrees.
I brought everyone warm water twice yesterday, but everything is frozen brick solid. We have dealt with frozen temps before… But having day time highs today predicted to be only in the 20s, my systems can’t melt. Installing heaters would be irresponsible and costly for the 1-3 days a year they need them.
But, this shock also caused me to lose one of the babies… And two from the growout pen (their spare cover fell down).
