I do a lot of workshops with youth on weekends (including my Citizen Science programs). Most of these workshops involve teaching about the 12 different soil textures, which are made up of sand, silt, and clay percentages. In order to learn about soils, AND get hands on experience, it is important to have samples that have a known soil texture so people can actually feel what the different categories are.
In the past, I have borrowed other peoples samples. But, I thought it was time to create my own. I am beyond excited! I have ten samples (silt and sandy clays are pretty rare) that I can use for teaching girl scouts all by myself.
