Fall Shadows at Umstead State Park

Once I decided to take a break from my PhD, I needed to get back in touch with my creative side. Lucky for me one of the locations I have been hanging out at had a box of pastel chalks sitting around. So, starting around 12/18, I started messing around with the chalks. It turns out that I have a new hobby.

One of my favorite things about North Carolina are the lovely pine forests. These forests, especially in the winter, are light in undergrowth. When the light gets long, it casts some super fun shadows over the boulders near the base of these trees. The pine straw and trees create contrasts and shadows. It took about 3 hours to do. I hope the picture does it justice.

This is a chalk pastel drawing of a sunset in the pine forest in Umsted Park.

This is a 8 x 10 original, which would retail for around $25 if anyone is interested
