The Soils Dress: Part 1

I wanted to totally customise my pi day wedding dress and make it myself. So I decided on a tattered skirt style, which would keep the cost low, and allow me to get a creative flair involved into it that was 100% my own. Being a soil scientist, and having 2015 being the International Year of the Soils, it is natural that I want to incorporate that into my dress.

So I took a bed sheet and cut it into several different strips between 3-4′ lengths, and 5-12″ wide. Then I got three different soil colors: red, orangish-tan, and brown. My assistant Liz came and helped me with the creativity. We dissolved the soils into water, and painted designs onto the sheets. Here are our first 17 panels.
